Carol Bereuter has been a medical translator since 2011, and works from French and German into English. Committed to spreading knowledge and helping colleagues along their career paths, Ekaterina has been providing training for language professionals since 2015. Ana Sofia Correia is an English-to-Portuguese medical translator and writer based in Portugal, with 18 years of experience. She has collaborated with life sciences companies, contract research organizations, language service providers, and medical communication agencies. After spending 12 years as an in-house translator at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra and the Nursing School of Coimbra, she transitioned to full-time freelancing in 2019. Ana Sofia currently serves as the Marketing Manager of the Women in Localization Portugal Chapter and as Vice-President of the Portuguese Medical Writers Association (APMW). She is also an active member of APTRAD, MET, TREMÉDICA, and EMWA. In addition to providing translation, writing, and linguistic validation services, she authors the Perspectives on Medical Translation & Writing newsletter and co-authors the blog Med & Mark. Since 2023, she has led Medical Translation Mentoring, a program dedicated exclusively to supporting translators specializing in medical and life sciences.

Cécile Gautier graduated from the University of Lille (France) in 2008 and worked as a localisation project manager in Madrid before embarking on a freelance translation career in March 2009. Based first in Lille and, later, Paris, Cécile specialised in medicine and international development, working from English and Spanish to French, before moving east in February 2016 to join the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM)/Council of Europe in Strasbourg as a scientific translator. A former member of the SFT, ITI and ASETRAD, Cécile enjoys networking and talking about what she does and loves.

Kathrin Kunze is a German medical translator and writer whose deep connection to medical language began at the age of six when she joined the Red Cross in Germany. Her passion for medicine led her to formal medical training at sixteen, followed by 14 years of hands-on experience in hospitals and private practices, further enriched by international work in Oceania and lots of additional education programs in various medical fields. Medical language is second nature to her, and she seamlessly blends her expertise with linguistic precision to help clients tailor their content for patients, investigators, and medical professionals. Now based in Sweden, she is one of the two founders of MedTalks and writes a blog about her experiences in the ER, using her knowledge to bridge the gap between medicine and communication with clarity and accuracy.

Jay Marciano has spent more than 27 years at the forefront of developing, applying, and explaining machine translation (MT). He has held senior positions at SDL (2001-2010) and Lionbridge (2010-2020), where he was responsible for the global strategy of using MT to increase translation efficiency, and at Lengoo, where he was deeply involved in the creation of an AI product strategy. Jay is president of the Association for Machine Translation in the Americas (AMTA), currently holds the rotating post of president of the International Association for Machine Translation, and presents widely on MT, AI, and the future of the translation industry.

Pablo Mugüerza is a Spanish medical translator EN>ES with more than 40 years of experience as a translator, both on-site (McGraw-Hill) and freelance (most of the time). He graduated in medicine in 1987 and since then has worked for the most important translation agencies in Spain and abroad, and for most of the major pharmaceutical companies and CROs. He is an external translator for the WHO in Geneva, Switzerland and an editor for the OPS. He is one of the foremost authorities on the translation of EN>ES clinical trial protocols, on which he has published a highly demanded manual (the 2nd edition sold out in March 2018). Since 2009 he has presented more than a hundred workshops, courses and conferences in both English and Spanish, in person and online, in many countries in Europe and in North and South America. Currently, in addition to his uninterrupted work as a translator and ENES reviewer for the world’s leading agencies and CROs, he is a consultant for the terminology unit of the Spanish Royal National Academy of Medicine and for Evidera (one of the world’s largest Health Marketing Research companies), a “trust miner” for the pioneering text mining company Exfluency, and a term validator for the Spanish Supercomputing Center and the CNIO (National center of cancer research).

In December 2024 he presented his own dictionary of translation EN>SPA of medical terms ( mugumed.com), a revolutionary, personal work with almost 10 000 terms in February 2025. It is the first born-digital dictionary of its kind and the only one posted since the classic previous comparable work, now 25 years old.

Mercedes Pacheco is a highly experienced English to Spanish medical translator and interpreter with over 28 years of specialized expertise. Her professional focus spans critical domains including life sciences, medical devices, clinical protocols, product information, IT, e-learning, and marketing communications.

A Qualified Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), Mercedes serves as Deputy Coordinator of the ITI Medical & Pharmaceutical Network. She is an active participant in the ITI Spanish and Scottish Networks, and a member of the ITI Interpreters’ Development Network and the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI).

Her academic credentials include a BA in English Philology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, a Diploma in Translation from UNED, and a Diploma in Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpretation from Estudio Sampere, Escuela de Traductores e Intérpretes.

In 2020, Mercedes relocated from Spain to Glasgow and founded MPR MEDICAL TRANSLATOR LTD. Beyond her translation and interpretation work, she is committed to knowledge sharing through workshops, talks, and teaching medical translation.

As a Level 6 CIOL DPSI Health & Law professional and ITI affiliate, she provides expert over-the-phone, video, and remote simultaneous interpretation for global conferences. She serves prestigious organizations such as the Doctors Federation for the World (DFW), hospitals, GP practices, and various sectors within the medical, legal, educational, social, and public services in the US and UK. Her expertise spans medical fields like psychiatry, neurology, and obstetrics, as well as public services including welfare, immigration, legal proceedings, and law enforcement.
